What unfreedom taught me about freedom
About habits, roles and beliefs that helped at first and later became restrictive.
Read articleBook in progress
I am writing about the different forms in which I sought and lost freedom. The same movement returns in my upbringing, recovery, faith, entrepreneurship, relationships and our leap to Portugal.
The book follows my life from losing my mother, addiction and homelessness through recovery, faith, entrepreneurship, bankruptcy and Portugal. Each phase revealed another form of the same unfreedom.
I examine how a form that offers support can later become restrictive. I write about carrying responsibility without condemning ourselves or someone else, and why my current work grows from everything that came before it.
To me, personal transformation does not mean building a better version of yourself. It means rejecting less and less of yourself. What remained outside your awareness has something to tell you. It does not all have to lead.
The journey does not form a straight line but a spiral. The same questions return at a deeper layer. The book therefore ends in movement and leaves the answer open.
Studies
While writing, I publish separate essays and fragments on the blog.
